Movies Calculator

About

A playful tool for movie fans who like to plan the impossible marathon.

What is this?

Movies Calculator is a fun, personal project by Sergei Chyrkov. It started as a simple question — “how many movies could I actually watch?” — and grew into a site for estimating watch time, comparing franchise runtimes, browsing director and actor filmographies, and planning your next binge.

Use the homepage calculator to personalize how many films fit your schedule, or for famous directors, franchises, actors, streaming habits, and average movie length. Powered by TMDB API, it is meant to be useful, quick, and a little nerdy.

What's new

  1. July 16, 2026

Movie detail popup on the homepage calculator

Click any recommended movie poster under “What to watch next” to open a detail popup. The layout shows the poster on the left and movie info on the right: title, director (from TMDB credits), rating, year, runtime, genres, and a full where-to-watch list with streaming countries shown inline. The calculator form also has a green accent border.

Film poster carousels on guide pages

Franchise, actor, director, TV series, watch-order, and streaming guide pages now show an auto-scrolling poster carousel above the page title. The carousel spans full viewport width on desktop and falls back to horizontal scroll when reduced motion is preferred.

    Dedicated TV Series section

TV shows now live at /tv-series with their own index page — separate from movie franchises. Added Game of Thrones (~72 hours) and Breaking Bad (~62 hours), plus where-to-watch guides for top HBO and streaming shows. Old /franchises URLs redirect automatically.

    Four prestige TV series added

Added season-by-season watch time for Twin Peaks (~45 hours), The Sopranos (~78 hours), Severance (~16 hours), and Euphoria (~26 hours). Each series has a runtime page and a marathon binge guide.

Sortable franchise, actor, and director lists

The Franchises, Actors, and Directors index pages now have sortable columns. Click a column header to sort by name (A–Z or Z–A), film/season count, or total runtime (longest or shortest first). The active sort shows an arrow next to the column title.

TV series runtimes and marathon guides

Added season-by-season watch time for three long-running shows: The Walking Dead (~127 hours), Sex and the City (~49 hours including both films), and The Middle (~79 hours). Each series has a runtime page plus a marathon binge guide.

    10 new actor filmography pages

New watch-time guides for Keanu Reeves, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Dwayne Johnson, Scarlett Johansson, and Arnold Schwarzenegger — each with a full film list, runtime totals, and links to related franchises like Matrix, Star Wars, MCU, and Terminator.

    Search and discovery improvements

Updated page titles, descriptions, and quick-answer summaries across franchise and filmography pages so they better match common search queries. Added cross-links between related franchises, actors, and marathon guides. Site content now targets a US audience (en-US) with US streaming availability where shown.

    Streaming availability

Franchise, director, and actor film tables now show where each movie is available to stream. Homepage recommendation cards include the same info below the year and runtime. Hover a platform name to see which countries list that title. Data comes from TMDB and JustWatch.
